What’s the difference between a “studio” family shoot and a portrait session?
My portrait sessions are held in studio, and your online gallery might look a little different. However, it’s important to note that in a portrait session, my goal is to create one beautiful stand-alone image. Depending on the final outcome, most images in your online gallery may need to be extended or cropped as they will be “dirty background”. Expect most images in your online gallery to require photoshop retouching. However, depending on the desired size of your image, cropping your image can provide a sufficient solution
Typically with other shoots, the entire is frame is filled with the location’s background, leaving an online gallery of usable images as is.
See below for a sample of a portrait session gallery and contact sheet with my personal editing notes for final image selection. Please note this is an example, and final image selection and editing suggestions to be made by client.
What is dirty background?
Dirty background images are when you see more than just the immediate backdrop in the photo. Sometimes, this is also an intentional, artistic choice; solely depends on the client.
Are there any photo backdrop options?
Yes! There are options for clean colored backgrounds, as well as beautiful canvas backgrounds which provide depth and texture to your image.
Currently, the clean backgrounds include blue, black, and white (subject to change).
Our canvas backgrounds are as follows:
Blush - 6’ x 9’
Teal - 9’ x 12’
Stone - 9’ x 12’
Do you offer any other colors of your canvas backdrops?
Yes! Custom requested textured canvas backdrops are available at cost.
6’x9’ (recommended for children or seated portraits) - $75
9’x12’ (recommended for families) - $100
How do I get my photos?
You will be emailed a link to a secure online gallery where you can view and download your images.
How many photos do I get?
Your online gallery can include anywhere from 100 - 150 images.
Do you offer prints?
At this present time, all images are only digital.
Is photo editing included in the price?
Yes! Included in your price are 3 photoshop retouches.
What’s the difference between editing and “photoshopping”?
All images in your online gallery are edited and color processed to enhance the style, mood, and overall look of the final image. This artistic process includes adjusting exposure, lifting or lowering contrast, setting tones, etc.
Photoshop retouching takes it a step further by including more intricate detail work such as blemish removal, skin smoothing, photo compositing, background extension, and more.
What if I like something in one photo, and something else in a different photo - are you able to photoshop them together?
Yes, pending the original images are easily maneuverable, photo compositing can be provided, and will be included as one of your 3 final photoshop retouches.
Am I able to have a photo of my family, and then individual photos of each child? Would it be included in the price?
Yes, of course! I will take a variety of photos with different family combinations during your session.
Can I have a themed shoot?
Absolutely - I love themed shoots!
Do you provide the theme?
I would be happy get creative with you!! Please allow time to build on your theme, and bring as much input as you can to your consultation. Any extra props and preparation time will be billed at cost plus $50 per hour.
Do you provide props?
If already available, I am happy to provide extra props. As a general guide, if you see a prop in a photo I have taken, please inquire specifically. If it is unavailable, I may suggest alternatives or we can arrange to add it to the shoot at cost. Again, please bring as much input to your consultation so we can best accommodate you and your creative portrait session.
What does a typical set up of a portrait session?
